UPJOHN J-5 BACTERIN™
(Escherichia Coli Bacterin J-5 Strain)

Twice the Protection

UPJOHN J-5 BACTERIN™ Escherichia Coli Bacterin J-5 Strain delivers twice the protection against coliform mastitis. As the original J-5 strain bacterin, UPJOHN J-5 BACTERIN is proven in millions of doses, and is backed by the strongest investigative data package of any mastitis vaccine in the world. Its three-dose regimen stimulates the immune system for optimum immune response (including cell-mediated immunity) and greater control over endotoxin load.

Indications

UPJOHN J-5 BACTERIN is recommended for use in healthy dairy cattle as an aid in the prevention of clinical mastitis caused by E. coli.

Key Features

  • Three-dose program twice as effective as two-dose regimen of competitive products*

  • The most thoroughly tested mastitis bacterin available - proven in actual commercial dairies

  • Unique core antigen technology

  • Reduces the incidence of coliform mastitis by as much as 80 percent

  • Reduces the severity of cases that do occur in treated cows, leading to decreased cull rates resulting from coliform mastitis

  • Particularly valuable in recently freshened, low-SCC and high-production cows, which seem to be more susceptible to infection by E. coli

  • Proven in more than eight million cows

  • Vaccinated cows stay in production

  • Advanced production techniques result in higher antigenicity with less endotoxin load

  • Cost effective - whole herd vaccination is justified if coliform mastitis is present in just one percent of the herd

Packaging

UPJOHN J-5 BACTERIN is available in 100-mL (20 dose) and 250-mL (50 dose) vials.

Dosage/Administration

To protect cattle during the 100 days when coliform mastitis is most likely to occur, UPJOHN J-5 BACTERIN should be administered in a three-injection regimen, given when cows are normally handled: one 5-mL dose subcutaneously (SC) at drying off, one 5-mL dose SC 30 days later, and one 5-mL dose SC at freshening or within two weeks of freshening. The program should be repeated annually.
